Immigration Update August 2017

Immigration Update August 2017

During an action-packed immigration month the Home Office made the sad announcement that airline landing cards, which have been part of our lives for so long, are to be abolished on 1 October 2017.

The Supreme Court, in a case called “Sadovska”, confirmed the existing caselaw such that where the genuineness of a European marriage is in question the onus is on the UKVI to prove that the marriage is not genuine, rather than being on the parties to the marriage to prove that it is.

The Home Office have made a few fairly minor changes to the Appendix FM family immigration rules and policy guidance, as a result of the decision of the Supreme Court in a case called “MM (Lebanon)”.

In an unusual administrative manoeuvre the Home Office sent approximately one hundred letters to EEA nationals, telling them that they had to leave the UK. But this was apparently the result of an “unfortunate error”.
